The highlight of her day was riding in the car with her boyfriend Johnson. She has become boy crazy over this little guy in her class this year. She has called him her boyfriend since their Toddler Day Out class, but this year she is smitten. She talks about him all the time and then some more. We have talked to her about how she probably does not need to think about him as much as she does. That led to tears and a broken heart, because "He is special to me." The day before her field journal we found out Johnson was going to ride with us. After a big smile and a long time staring out the window with a silly look on her face she said "Mom I had been doing good not thinking about him, but now I cannot stop. I just feel so happy." We are trying to handle this little obsession carefully, but it is definitely new waters for us as parents and one we thought would be years away.

A Field Journal
Payton went on a "field journal" as she likes to call it with her friends from preschool. She was excited for me to meet "all her new friends." They went to a dentist office, and then to Johnny's Pizza. It was fun to watch her interact with her classmates and enjoy herself.

How to Juggle? A very honest moment.....
Lately reality is setting in on "how am I going to juggle four children the way I want to parent?" At home everything runs smoothly, even pretty close to perfect. The girls play well together, we do our "homework" or school books, craft, pretend, play on the floor with a very content Harrison, and just enjoy one another. At the end of those days I go to bed feeling so full because of my house full of kids. I still find time to do housework and keep up with things around here too. Outside in the "real" world I feel like I lose my routine and feel incredibly split between the three kids at times. I come home feeling exhausted and frustrated. Play dates and get togethers can seem like too much work. It makes me sad. I cannot seem to juggle needing to be around Payton and her friends, making sure she plays nicely, respectful, and is a good friend. Playing with Claire who will ask "Mommy please come play with me" or "come watch me" and I often feel like I have abandoned her at the end of the time. Then entertaining Harrison and wrangling him, or feeling terrible he sat in a stroller most of the day. I leave feeling guilty. This is a very hard stage for me and snuck up on me. Jonathan worries we do not do anything with friends anymore, and stay home too much, but how do I be the parent I desire to be in a big group? Most of the time I spend my time hopping back and forth between the kids and never socializing with my friends. I miss them and miss knowing what is going on in their lives. What will it be like when I add the fourth to the mix? Will we become hermits and live in our happy bubble at home? Will our friends understand we miss them terribly? Will it get easier? Is this just one of the hurdles of having four kids 5 and under? Any advice from those who have several children is welcome.
Clemson
Jonathan took the kids to Clemson for a game a few Saturdays ago. He earned his dad of the year award. He has never shied away from taking the kids places on the weekends I work, but never somewhere as tough as a college football game with three little ones. Jared and Alex went with them, but no one to help with the kids. His biggest concern was what to do if the girls had to go potty. A men's restroom in a college stadium is the last place you want to take two little curious girls. He survived and had a great time. He did say it made him very thankful for all the times he has had grandparents to give a helpful hand. He was determined to make sure that Harrison got to a football game this season and thanks to his dad he was able to get tickets. The girls said they had a great time, but I think the highlight was spending the day with Alex.

We love Fall!
We have missed a lot of naps lately and enjoyed our time outside. The weather is just beautiful and the kids love playing in their backyard. Watching Payton and Claire interact can just be so much fun. I think one of the biggest joys of being a mom is watching your kids be friends and have fun together. It is not always perfect, I do not want to paint a false picture, but even in those days we can teach from those situations in our own home. At night the girls love to wind down together and many times I beg Jonathan if we can delay bedtime on those nights when I see their relationship growing close. I am excited that Harrison will have a little sibling/friend so close in age too and look forward to wathcing them.

A Farm Party
We threw Harrison a farm party for all of his friends. We were blessed with beautiful October weather and lots of friends and family to celebrate with us. Uncle Stanley brought over his tractor to take the kids on a hayride. It was a great treat. Harrison did not disappoint with his cake. He attacked it in the most entertaining fashion. He got a lot of boy toys, which he adores. That evening we stayed home and enjoyed playing with all of his new things and spending time with Nana. It was a terrific day!
